Celebrity chef James Martin of BBC’s Saturday Kitchen has lent his culinary reputation to a good cause: literacy. He went to Morpeth, England to encourage thousands to develop their reading skills and enrol in a free course.

“Cooking demonstrates how numeracy and literacy skills are needed for everyday tasks, requiring people to be able to read recipes, count out and weigh ingredients, half or quarter recipes and convert from imperial to metric,” says the news site.
