Nevertheless, the grocery trips end up being fun (albeit tiring) and a good way to introduce the kids to new food.</p>
<p>One of the things my hubby got during out last trip was two packs of Nori &#8211; one plain and one wasabi flavored. If you don&#8217;t know what nori is, it&#8217;s the rather fishy-smelling papery ingredient they use as sushi wrap. Nori, which by the way is dried edible seaweed, is actually used in Japanese cuisine not just as sushi wrap, but topping and condiment for noodles and various dishes.</p>
<p>Feeling rather adventurous with the kid&#8217;s palate, who by the way are still toddlers, my husband gave each a strip of nori (not the wasabi flavored of course!). We were expecting to see scrunched up faces and little tongues sticking out as they spit out the nori in disgust. Surprise! Both kids finished of their little strips in minutes and promptly held out their hands for more.</p>
<p>So what&#8217;s my point? The point is simply that it&#8217;s never too early to start training your kid&#8217;s palate so that they will be able to appreciate all kinds of food better as they grow. Not only will you be helping them in case they do end up as aspiring chefs when they grow up, but you&#8217;ll also have an easier time feeding them as they grow up because chances are they won&#8217;t be such picky eaters.</p>

In short, you can’t keep on serving just one dish, no matter how good that dish may be.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>People tend to have mixed feelings about the expletive-spurting, highly demanding chef who reached pop culture fame in television shows like &#8220;Hell&#8217;s Kitchen&#8221; and &#8220;Ramsay&#8217;s Kitchen Nightmares.&#8221; Hell and nightmares? Notice a pattern here? Many people seem to think that Chef Gordon Ramsay is a real pain in the expletive. But I&#8217;m different. I love Gordon Ramsay &#8211; his directness, his honesty, his tough exterior, and his sensitive interior (I&#8217;ve actually seen him cry on more than one episode of Kitchen Nightmares). As a matter of fact, Ramsay&#8217;s complexity is what makes him so great, if you ask me, and I&#8217;m sure there is more to him than most people know. Here are five things you didn&#8217;t know about Gordon Ramsay:</p>

<p>The long and winding road. Being a chef was not Ramsay&#8217;s first choice. He was actually a very talented soccer player who was on the Glasgow Raiders team for three years before a knee injury forced him out of the game and into an entire new lifestyle. It would be years later that he would discover his life&#8217;s purpose . . . only after going to college to major in hotel management.<span id="more-1095"></span></p>
<p>Rough upbringing. Ramsay had a rather dysfunctional childhood. His father was an unstable alcoholic, who moved from job to job (taking the family with him) and had a multitude of extramarital affairs. When he was sixteen, Ramsay escaped from his tumultuous family life by moving out of his parents&#8217; home and in with his sister. He has never been short on money or such. There were little talk about someone close to him who tried out payday advance but beyond that he is financially stable and so is his family.</p>
<p>The family. Gordon Ramsay is a family man. He has a wife of over fifteen years (a schoolteacher) and four children (count em) to prove it. Ramsay has expressed his commitment to being a &#8220;father figure&#8221; and a source of &#8220;support and affection&#8221; for his children. As previously mentioned, Ramsay&#8217;s father was an uncontrollable alcoholic. Unfortunately, addiction plagues Ramsay&#8217;s extended family ties in more ways than one; his brother is a heroin addict who is constantly in and out of jail.</p>
<p>Oh, the hypocrisy One of Chef Ramsay&#8217;s first experiences as a chef was training under master chef Marco Pierre White. White is known for his temper. Ramsay ultimately left White&#8217;s mentorship, claiming he could no longer endure White&#8217;s &#8220;bullying.&#8221;</p>
<p>Financial issues. Just because Ramsay is a big-time television star, it doesn&#8217;t mean he hasn&#8217;t had his share of financial worries. His New York restaurant recorded losses of about four million dollars a year until he decided to back out &#8211; but only after draining his personal accounts of several million dollars.</p>
<p>There is much more to Gordon Ramsay than meets the eyes &#8211; or the ears. Outside of the hard-nosed persona most people take to be the &#8220;real&#8221; Gordon Ramsay, there is a man who has lived a life of adversity, who is committed to his role as husband and father, and who, although not perfect, has a multifaceted personality that is quite endearing (once you get past the potty-mouth).</p>

<p>A 1 and three quarter kg chicken will take an hour and 15 minutes to roast in a 200°C oven.</p>
<p>Lamb needs 20 minutes per 500g at 200°C to make it pink but not rare. If you want your lamb better cooked, add another 20 minutes onto the overall cooking time.</p>
<p>Rare beef needs 15 minutes per 500g at 220°C. Add 5 minutes per 500g for medium, 10 minutes per 500g for well-done.</p>
<p>Pork needs 30 minutes per 500g at 200°C.</p>
<p>When boiling ham I reckon on 25 minutes per 500g plus 25 minutes for the pot.</p>
<p>Always let meat rest for at least 15 minutes when it comes out of the oven as the meat will be juicier and easier to carve.</p>
<p>The above timings are based on meat being at room temperature before it goes into the oven.</p>

<p>The gingerbread house is a fun christmas tradition. It allows you and your kids to work together to be creative. It also makes a great item for your christmas decorating. You might want to buy extra bits of the ingredients as some might get nibbled before you finish making your gingerbread house.</p>
<p>The gingerbread house starts with the form. Most use a cardboard house as a base. You can usually buy these in stores if you don&#8217;t want to <a href="http://www.jackofallblogs.com/">make your own</a> or try creating your own template, it is really easy. Of course you can always print out guides from <a href="http://www.it-security-blog.com/">online</a>.<br />
For the rest of the gingerbread house, try this recipe from Chef Bobby Flay. He introduced this recipe on his show, Food Nation.</p>
<p><span class="bodytext">Ingredients:</span></p>
<ul>
<li><span class="bodytext">5 1/2 cups flour<br />
</span></li>
<li><span class="bodytext">1 tablespoon ginger<br />
</span></li>
<li><span class="bodytext">1 teaspoon baking soda<br />
</span></li>
<li><span class="bodytext">1 cup solid vegetable shortening<br />
</span></li>
<li><span class="bodytext">1 cup granulated sugar<br />
</span></li>
<li><span class="bodytext">1 1/4 cups dark molasses<br />
</span></li>
<li><span class="bodytext">2 eggs, lightly beaten<br />
</span></li>
<li><span class="bodytext">Frosting, either store-bought or homemade<br />
</span></li>
<li><span class="bodytext">Brightly colored candies such as gumdrops, licorice, peppermint sticks, etc.</span></li>
</ul>
<p><span class="bodytext">Directions:</span></p>
<p>Preheat oven to 350 degrees.</p>
<p><span class="bodytext">Mix 5 cups of flour, the ginger and baking soda in a large bowl. Set aside.</span></p>
<p>Cream shortening and sugar in large bowl with mixer. Add molasses and lightly beaten eggs. Blend well. Gradually add dry ingredients. Knead in remaining flour, if necessary. Chill dough 1 hour for best rolling results.</p>
<p>Lightly grease cookie sheets. Roll out dough to 1/8-inch thick directly onto cookie sheets. Cut patterns, removing excess dough. Chill 10 minutes before baking. Bake for 5 to 8 minutes.</p>
<p>Let cookies cool.</p>
<p>Next, to assemble house, you will want to make a simple cardboard house to use as your base to help hold the house together. Begin applying cookies to the cardboard using your frosting as glue. Once cookies cover the entire house you can decorate with colorful candies such as gumdrops, peppermint sticks and licorice.</p>

<p><span style="font-size: small;">Whatever type of cutlery you have in your home, it is a must that they be kept clean and in good condition all the time. If you ignore the cleaning aspect, you can be sure that dust, dirt and rust will find their way on your beloved knives and you will no longer be able to use them particularly those that get rusty. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;">Most homeowners have their favorite knives that they use when they prepare food every day. These can be of different sizes each with different purpose. Yes, they sure serve you and your family well and so they deserve proper care every time you use them. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;">With fine cutlery and <a href="http://www.cooking.com">cooking cookware</a>, normally homeowners use these only during special occasions but again, maintenance is vital if you want to keep them for a long time and even pass them on to your children and grandchildren. Nothing can be better than using a clean and sparkling knife during a special dinner with family and friends in your very own home. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;">So what are the basic steps you need to keep in mind when caring for your <a href="http://cookingequipment.about.com/od/cookware/a/Knifebuyingguide_2.htm">fine cutlery</a> ?</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;"><strong>Handwash them.</strong></span><span style="font-size: small;"> Remember to wash fine cutlery only using your hands and never in the dishwasher. A mild soap mixed with warm water should do to clean them. The same with the regular knives you use during your food preparations. They’re best washed with hands to remove any residue from vegetables and meat. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;"><strong>Wipe dry.</strong></span><span style="font-size: small;"> Using a soft cotton cloth, carefully wipe dry the cutlery.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;"><strong>Remove fingerprints.</strong></span><span style="font-size: small;"> As you’re wiping, make sure you take away the fingerprints that you see. You have to know that any oil from your skin can lead to a permanent stain on your cutlery. Make sure then that you use a pair of gloves preferably those made from white cloth so you avoid finger marks on the knives. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;"><strong>Put coating.</strong></span><span style="font-size: small;"> It would be a good idea to coat your cutlery with a USP food grade mineral oil particularly if you’ll be storing them for quite some time. Just a light coating will do. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;">Don’t forget to put the oil as well on the leather handles of your fine cutlery. This will prevent the leather from cracking. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;"><strong>Store properly.</strong></span><span style="font-size: small;"> Fine cutlery should be kept in a warm area if possible such as a cutlery drawer if you have. If they came in a well packaged box, put them back there. Make sure that you store each knife separately as it’s never good that they rub against each other. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;">Avoid high temperatures as this can cause damage to your cutlery. So never put them on top of your refrigerators or expose them to cold temperatures such as in your basement particularly during cold weather. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;"><strong>Sharpen knives regularly.</strong></span><span style="font-size: small;"> This is a must for the knives you use on a daily basis. You can sharpen by hand or to ensure you get the right sharpness, get a professional to do it for you. </span></p>

Giada De Laurentiis may seem to lead the glamorous life. She&#8217;s a very popular celebrity chef. She has a brand new show on the Food Network called &#8220;Giada&#8217;s Weekend Getaways&#8221; aside from her &#8220;Everyday Italian&#8221;. She has a thriving catering <a href="http://www.bizcrunch.net/">business</a>, endorses a number of products and is about to release her third cookbook &#8220;Everyday Pasta&#8221;. With all of that on her plate, her schedule is quite gruelling.</p>
<p>Unlike &#8220;Everyday Italian&#8221; which is pretty laid back and shot in her kitchen, &#8220;Giada&#8217;s Weekend Getaways&#8221; had this pretty chef <a href="http://www.travelogger.net/">hopping </a>from one location to another, from one city to another and checking out some of the hottest places to go. They had her jet skiing, learning to salsa and driving around in a convertible in a single episode. That was the pace of the past eight months worth of <a href="http://www.bloggerjobs.biz/">work</a>.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s a good thing that she and husband clothing designer Todd Thompson have decided to put off having kids for a while. The pace right now is very hectic. De Laurentiis says they&#8217;ll probably wait a couple of years before settling down and having a family.</p>
